Signs of a Cockroach Infestation

Signs of a Cockroach Infestation

Finding roaches in your home or business can be a difficult experience. Not only are these pests unsanitary, they can easily make your structure seem less hospitable. As the home of the Roach Reaper program, Advanced Pest Solutions has dealt with its fair share of cockroach infestations. If you have seen any of these potential warning signs of cockroach infestation around your home or business, it may be time to give us a call.

Live Cockroaches

One sure sign that you have a cockroach infestation is the presence of live cockroaches being seen during the day. Cockroaches are considered a nocturnal insect and will typically scurry away when a light source is turned on. However, when a large cockroach infestation is present, individual cockroaches will be kicked out of a nest and begin searching for new food and water sources.

Cockroach Eggs

Cockroach eggs, often known as oothecae, are deposited in hidden locations to ensure they aren’t disturbed by human interaction. In many cases, these eggs will be found behind appliances because of the potential food and water sources a kitchen can provide. As these eggs hatch, cockroach nymphs can further expand the cockroach infestation that you are facing.

Cockroach Feces

As a cockroach infestation intensifies, you will likely begin finding cockroach feces that resembles black pepper flakes or coffee grounds. However, larger cockroaches will leave cylindrical droppings. Often, your pest control provider can determine how long your cockroach populations have been present based on the size of the droppings that they find.

Unpleasant Odors

Some species of cockroach have the ability to emit unpleasant odors that are oily or musty. While typically present when large numbers of roaches are present, a single German cockroach can potentially product this smell as well. Decomposing cockroaches will also break down into oleic acid, further compounding this unpleasant smell.
